Yoga

'What we are advancing toward is not some physical form but an inward recognition of the truth of who are are..' D.Farhi

Yoga originated in the subcontinent of India, and has evolved, taking many different forms, over thousands of years. It continues to evolve to this day, developing new emphasis and form as it becomes more and more integrated into the West.

Yoga offers us a place to be ourselves. From this place we can develop greater sensitivity and attentiveness to what our body is telling us - of how we can move, breathe and be with ourselves with ease and clarity; the practice of being more alive to each moment.

Yoga offers us specific tools; through the practice of asana (physical postures), pranayama (expansion of the breath) and meditation (calming and focusing of the mind) to move through our daily lives with greater flexibility and improved function.

The different 'types' of yoga that we encounter today are simply different styles or approaches to the same underlying principle: The principle of bringing together our body, our mind and our heart.

 Teacher Nicky Smith:

'Over the past 10 years I have been working within the fields of Yoga, movement & massage; teaching and learning with people of all ages and of different physical abilities.

My journey with Yoga and has led me to study with some of the worlds most inspiring teachers; Donna Farhi, John Stirk, Clive Sheridan & Angela Farmer. Through their teaching and guidance I have been constantly encouraged to approach my practice and teaching in the spirit of open exploration & enquiry and I am pleased to have the opportunity to share this.

My classes focus on each of us developing a healthier relationship with and a deeper awareness of our own body; paying attention to breath, gravity and patterns of movement whilst embracing the philosophy of Patanjali's 8 limbs of Yoga'.
